Become a Coach

Coaches are the heart of our program! Each season, two or more volunteer coaches inspire and guide a team through our tried-and-true curriculum. If you're ready to directly make an impact, then this role is for you.

Become a junior Coach

Junior Coaches are needed to inspire the next generation! Our Junior Coach program is for high school girls aged 16 to 18. Beyond serving as a role model to program participants, Junior Coaches work alongside Coaches, strengthening their leadership skills and gaining a sense of belonging and purpose.

Sparkle Squad

Girls on the Run Upstate SC is now recruiting members with the passion, skills, experience, availability, and interest to help us expand our reach and put our mission into motion to join the Sparkle Squad volunteer group.

The Sparkle Squad is a group of volunteers that will support planning and implementing events and programs such as the Girls on the Run 5K, coach training, SoleMates, Marketing, outreach, fundraising, and program and operational efforts. Members support projects and activities based on their availability and interest.

Some examples of Sparkle Squad projects include but are not limited to:

  • Assembly of team supplies

  • Girls on the Run 5K promotion and prep

  • Volunteering at coach training

  • Lead volunteer roles at the Girls on the Run 5K

  • Conducting site visits

  • Representing GOTR at community events

  • Delivering materials to sites

Although these opportunities are flexible based on your schedule, general expectations for Sparkle Squad members include:

  • Attendance at GOTR 5K

  • Participation in a variety of impactful project/volunteer opportunities

  • Participation in optional social events

  • General support of GOTR via friend and fundraising

  • Spreading the word about Girls on the Run via social media and other communication tools

Requirements:

  • Background check

  • Coach Training Strongly Reccommended (4 hours online at your own pace, 2 hours in-person) 

  • Commitment to one season

5K Volunteers

The end-of-season 5K provides a tangible sense of accomplishment to participants. To celebrate and make the experience one to remember, there are many opportunities to get involved.

  • Registration

  • Water Station
  • Packet Pickup
  • 5K Buddy

Group Opportunities

Are you part of a group or organization that wants to make an impact on our community? Girls on the Run would love to have you get involved with our program. Here are few ways you can make a difference while working together.

  • Volunteer together at a Girl on the Run 5K event – from cheer teams to water stations to handing out medals at the finish line and more – there are numerous ways for you to help bring this joyful end of season celebration to life!
  • Support with one-day volunteer opportunities.
  • Volunteer for or financially support a team for a season.
